The Republican Party of India Chief Ramdas Athawale has sought clarity on seat-sharing, saying that his party will otherwise reconsider its decision to be a part of the BJP-Shiv Sena-led alliance ‘Mahayuti’ in Maharashtra. The RPI spokesperson Arjun Dangle said the party has been demanding for long that the BJP and Shiv Sena should give at least 14-15 Assembly seats to it but there has been a complete stalemate over the seat-sharing. He said, if there is no final decision by September 10th, the RPI will be forced to reconsider its decision to be a part of the grand alliance.

The Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on the issue of laying down guidelines for probe into cases of encounter deaths and extra-judicial killings. A bench, headed by Chief Justice RM Lodha, has taken on record responses of the Centre, state governments, union territories and National Human Rights Commission for framing the guidelines to deal with the issues of encounter killings.
In Jammu and Kashmir, flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rain have claimed 13 lives. Eight persons, including a BSF officer were killed in incidents of landslides and flash floods in Jammu region alone. Five persons died in a house collapse in Reasi district. Our correspondent reports that Heavy rain lashed Srinagar for the third consecutive day today triggering the threat of floods across the valley.
There has been no let up in the rain and river Jhelum and all its tributaries and food channels are in spate. Scores of villages in South Kashmir are inundated. Traffic on Srinagar-Jammu national highway and Srinagar Leh road is closed following landslide at several places. Reports of damage to standing paddy crop and property are pouring in from different areas as authorities are trying its best to deal with the situation. A red alert has been sounded along river Chenab besides other rivers in Rajouri and Poonch by the administration. Hundreds of pleople have been evacuated from the houses and localities in the floor prone areas.
In Uttar Pradesh, a Ghaziabad court has issued a death warrant against the key accused Surinder Koli in connection with the brutal murder of 14-year-old Rimpa Halder at Nithari. A death warrant issued by Additional Sessions Judge Atul Kumar Gupta said that Koli has exhausted all his legal remedies in this case. The death warrant has been sent to the Uttar Pradesh government for making necessary preparations for execution of 42-year Koli, who has been sentenced to death in four other Nithari cases. Koli is lodged at a Ghaziabad jail.
President, exercising his powers, rejected the mercy petition on July 27, thereby paving the way for the judicial process to commence for hanging of Koli.
