In Bihar, an alert has been sounded by the state government as over three lakh cusec of water entered Sone river following heavy rainfall in Jharkhand. The government asked people living along the river bank to vacate their houses and not to venture into the river. There has been very heavy rainfall close to Daltonganj in Palamu district of Jharkhand. Disaster Management Department’s Officer on Special Duty Vipin Kumar Rai said that water is now moving through Koel river towards Sone. As a result the water level in Sone river may shoot up suddenly and endanger the people living close to it or those who have settled in parts of the river bed.

Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed has accepted the resignation of State Agriculture Minister Yogendra Sao, a day after Chief Minister Hemant Soren recommended Sao’s letter to him. Sao had on Friday submitted his resignation to Soren after the head of an ultra outfit accused him of founding the organization. The Congress MLA also sought an independent and impartial probe into the allegations.
President Pranab Mukherjee has said India is looking to enhance cooperation with Vietnam in defence, security and political areas as there is immense potential for bilateral engagement between the two nations. Talking to Vietnamese News Agency, VNA in New Delhi yesterday, he said, India-Vietnam partnership has reached a high point and is also beneficial to ASEAN and the region beyond. Mr Mukherjee, who will leave on a four-day visit to Vietnam today, said, his trip is aimed at enhancing the mutual goodwill between the two countries. Mr Mukherjee will meet top Vietnamese leaders including President Truong Tan Sang in Hanoi.
During his visit, India and Vietnam are expected to sign a number of MoUs including one between ONGC Videsh Limited and Petro Vietnam with regard to exploration activities in the South China Sea. Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry Anil Wadhwa told reporters in New Delhi yesterday that the President’s visit will help renew and deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
It will provide an opportunity to review our relations and also deepen our strategic partnership. We have a tradition of frequent high level exchanges which is contributed to a very good momentum, steady momentum in our bilateral relations.
President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Vietnam is expected to give a new dimension to the strategic partnership with the two sides showing keen interest to further strengthen their relationship on various counts. With Vietnam already offering two more oil blocks to India ’s ONGC Videsh limited for exploration activity, a letter of intent is likely to be signed during the high level visit. Both India and Vietnam are scheduled to hold talks on a wide spectrum of matters of mutual interest and discuss ways and means to take forward their strategic and regional partnership. The high level discussions between the two sides will also focus on enhancing cooperation in trade and investment and giving further impetus to people to people contacts as well as refurbishing the cultural linkages between the two nations.
